SOS Children’s Village Itahari established in 1992 is situated in Itahari Sub-Metropolitan and largest city in Sunsari district in the Koshi zone of south-eastern Nepal. It is located at the main transportation junction of eastern Nepal. Moved by the plight of the children after the devastating earthquake of 1988 that caused innumerable loss of life and property in eastern part of Nepal, the need of the establishment of SOS Children’s Village Itahari was felt. Since its inception, it has been a loving home for 146 children. They are being brought up with all the necessary standards required to become a contributing members of the society.
When young people pass Secondary Education Examination, they move from SOS families to SOS Youth Care Biratnagar. It is the second largest city of Nepal which is located in Koshi Zone. Young people are transferred to pursue higher secondary education or vocational training. They learn to take responsibilities of their own and make their own decisions with the help of qualified professionals.
In addition to these, it has SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Itahari located within the premises of SOS Children’s Village Itahari. The school provides quality education to the children from the village and nearby communities. It is regarded as the model school in which students are taught in the light of latest and best possible way of teaching by a dedicated team of teachers.
Similarly, there is also a retirement home for SOS mothers who have retired after their commendable service. Many retired mothers are living their retired life inside the premises of SOS Children’s Village Itahari happily.
