SOS Nepal hands over new houses, school building to earthquake affected people

Bhimtar, Sindhupalchowk, Sunday, April 29, 2018: SOS Children’s Villages Nepal on Sunday organized a major event to handover 177 family houses for the earthquake affected people in Bhimtar.

The president of Nepal Mrs. Bidya Devi Bhandari presided over the formal handing over ceremony as the Chief Guest.

President Bhandari praised the far-reaching emergency relief programs implemented by the SOS organization in different districts affected by the earthquake. She also acknowledged the contribution made by the organization through its childcare work in Nepal for the last 46 years.

International and national team from SOS Children’s Villages, and local leaders took part in today’s ceremonial handover program.

The program also included inauguration of a multi-purpose social center and a secondary school complex built by SOS organization for the people of Bhimtar.

Bhimshwari Secondary School, the only secondary level government-run school in Bhimtar, was severely damaged during the earthquake. The school has been handed over to the local management.

“Education is a basic human right for every child, and every government has the responsibility, every citizen has the responsibility to make sure that each one of our children can get proper education,” said Mr. Siddhartha Kaul, president of SOS Children’s Villages International, during the school’s inaugural function.

Bhimeshwari Secondary School is among the three public schools rebuilt by SOS organization in Nepal after the earthquake. The organization has also helped build 9 temporary learning centers in different districts.

SOS Children’s Villages Nepal has planned series of events and programs this week to mark the successful completion of its long-term relief works to earthquake survivors in some of the worst affected areas. The 177 family homes in Bhimtar are among the 284 houses it has constructed under its earthquake emergency response program for Nepal.
