President Kaul Calls on Nepal PM

Kathmandu, Friday, 27 April, 2018: President of the SOS Children’s Villages International Mr Siddhartha Kaul today met with the Prime Minister of Nepal Mr KP Sharma Oli at the latter’s office in Kathmandu.



Mr Kaul called on the Nepal PM to apprise him of the work of the SOS organization in Nepal in general and in particular the progress of the emergency response program implemented by the SOS Children’s Villages Nepal in the aftermath of the 2015 earthquake.

In the meeting, Mr Kaul was joined by Dr. Jyoti Ratna Dhakwa, President of the SOS CV Nepal; Mr Ishwori Sharma Prasad, National Director of SOS CV Nepal, and Mr Rajneesh Jain, SOS Children’s Villages International Representative Region Asia.

During the meeting that lasted almost 45 minutes in the Prime Minister’s Office, the two discussed on wide ranging subjects relating to the wellbeing and long-term care of children, and also continuity and strengthening of the SOS programs in Nepal.

When the devastating earthquake struck Nepal on 25th April 2015, SOS Children’s Villages initiated one of the most effective and comprehensive response programs in some of the worst affected areas. 

Besides the numerous short-term relief activities, SOS Children’s Villages implemented many long-term relief works, including complete reconstruction of three secondary public schools and, rebuilding of 285 earthquake resistant houses and 2 social centers.

Exactly three years after the launch of the emergency response program, SOS Children’s villages in now ready to handover the completed projects to local communities and bring the program to its concluding phase.

President Kaul arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday to preside over and participate in a series of events to mark the handover and closing of emergency relief work projects in different locations in Nepal.
