May 31 2021 Child Club Election: Adapting Democratic Practice SOS Child Club Surkhet elected Mr. Roshan Gharti Magar as their new President in an election held on 27th May, 2021. The election process was facilitated by the election committee of five members consisting of Sr. Counselor Ms. Basanti Shahi, president of the child club Ms. Samjhana Khadka and three mothers' representatives. All the candidates registered the application with their respective manifesto to strengthen the Child Club activities. Mr. Mukunda Kumar Giri, Village Director of SOS Children’s Village Surkhet was the observer of the election process. As soon as the polling completed, votes were counted by the election committee in the presence of candidates and the observer. This year, two children competed for the post of President of the club and eleven children registered their candidacy for nine position of members. Whereas, the candidates of Vice- president, secretary, and treasurer have remained unopposed in this election. A total of 76 children from Grade III and above cast their votes. Take an Oath Oath taking ceremony for the new executive committee of the child club was conducted on 28th May 2021. The coordinator of the election committee Ms. Basanti Shahi declared the newly elected executive committee. The president Mr. Roshan Gharti, vice-president Mr. Krishna Oli, Secretary Ms. Jamuna Sunar, and Treasurer Ms. Nirmala Shahi along with nine members took an oath in the name of the founder of SOS Children's Villages Prof. Dr. Herman Gmeiner and all the children in the world. Village Director Mr. Mukunda Kumar Giri administered the oath in the ceremony. The Director congratulated the new executive committee and appreciated the contribution of the committee of 2077. Deputy Director Mr. Sushil Mani Gyawali and Mother's Representative Ms. Sarmila KC also congratulated the new committee and wished them for their successful tenure. In the ceremony, a letter of appreciation and token of love was distributed to the members of the Child Club 2077 B.S in recognition of their valuable contribution even during the Covid-19 pandemic.
