FAMILY STRENTHENING – June 2 2026

Breaking taboos, building skills and empowering communities!

On the occasion of Menstrual Hygiene Day on 28 May, SOS Children's Villages Nepal, through its Community-Based Family Strengthening Programme in Lahan, organised a one-day cloth sanitary pad making training for members of Mothers’ Group and other community members.

The training went beyond learning a new skill. It opened conversations around menstrual health, challenged stigma and equipped participants with practical knowledge to support women and girls in their communities. By learning to make reusable cloth sanitary pads, participants gained an affordable and environmentally friendly solution that can improve menstrual hygiene while reducing waste.

Most importantly, the participants are now better positioned to share their knowledge with others, creating a ripple effect of awareness, dignity and empowerment throughout the community.

When communities come together to talk openly about menstruation, support one another and take action, we move closer to a future where every girl and woman can manage her menstrual health with confidence and dignity. ❤️

Menstrual Hygiene Day is observed every year on 28 May around the world. It was first celebrated in 2014 to raise awareness about menstrual health, challenge stigma and taboos, and promote access to menstrual hygiene products, education, and sanitation facilities. The date 28/5 symbolizes the average 28-day menstrual cycle and 5 days of menstruation.
