SOS Children’s Villages Nepal recognizes that there are many children in Nepal, who are at risk of losing the care of their biological families due to a number of risk factors such as abject poverty of families, death of one or both parents, family break-down, violence and many other social problems. As a result they are deprived of their right to a sound and caring family environment, where they can meet their basic needs such as access to nutritious food, health care, education and legal right, conducive family environment with adequate housing facilities. The main motto of Family Strengthening programme is to create the environment so that the children who are in the risk of losing parental care get an opportunity to grow in their root family. At present 7,214 children are supported through nine different Social Centers. The nine different Social centers are in Itahari, Bharatpur, Kavre, Sanothimi, Gandaki, Pokhara, Surkhet, Lumbini and Bardiya. The program like Day-Care Facility, Skill Development Center, Educational Support Programme, which are running under the Family Strengthening Programme are found to be more effective for the target families.
