Rayale, Kavre, April 30, 2018: Mr. Siddhartha Kaul, President SOS Children’s Villages International and Dr. Key Vorwerk, Chairman Executive Board of SOS Children's Villages Germany Jointly Inaugurated and handed over reconstructed Shree Shanti Niketan Secondary School to the School Management Committee. The School was also provided with a school bus. The key was handed over to Principal of Shanti Niketan School, Mr. Ramchandra K.C in the presence of school Management Committee, local leaders and Community people. Shanti Niketan Secondary School, situated in Rayale in Kavre district, was shut down after it was badly damaged by the earthquake. 325 children attend the school, out which 55% are the girls. The school is among the three schools rebuilt by the SOS organization under its “Build Back Better” campaign, which promised to build infrastructure better than it was before the earthquake. The principal of the school Mr Ramchandra KC thanked the SOS organization for constructing a more spacious and a better building complex than it used to be before the earthquake. He said the community of Rayale could now boast of a beautiful school in its locality. The rebuilding of the school involved renovating the undamaged part of the school, and reconstructing a whole new building complex with 8 classrooms, 7 toilets, a science centre, a mini library and a multipurpose hall. Solar panels of capacity 10-kilo watt has also been installed in the school.The reconstruction of the school was funded by SOS Children’s Villages Germany. Dr. Vorwerk expressed his delight for having successfully handed over the school, and urged the school management to make the best use of the educational facility. To ensure progress in teaching and learning environment of the school, SOS Children’s Villages Nepal has designated it as a “sister school” with the neighboring SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Kavre. The two schools have agreed to work on collborative and continuous exchange programs.
