'Annual Sports Meet cum Annual School Day' has been celebrated in SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Bharatpur amidst a grand function on 8th January 2011. The Sports Meet which lasted for four days was one of the most jubilant events in the history of the school.
On the 5th January 2011, The Annual Sports Meet was inaugurated formally by the Campus Chief of Bal Kumari College, Narayangarh, Mr. Chiranjibi Shrestha. From the chair of chief guest Mr. Shrestha highlighted the significance of games and sports in the changing scenario of teaching-learning activities. The school Principal Mr. Ganga B. Gurung delivered welcome speech, whereas Mr. Bhola Nath Paudel, Project Director of SOS Children Village Bharatpur was the chairperson of the programme. On the first day after the formal inauguration of the programme the students, divided into four different houses namely, Mars, Jupiter, Venus and Mercury demonstrated March Past and offered salute to the Chief Guest. Afterwards track events such as Sprint Race, Relay Race etc. and field events like Shot put throw and High Jump were held. Football, Volleyball and Tug of War were some of the group games for next three days. Throughout the sports week students’ participation in different events was remarkable. 27 Volunteers, including NJRC members, were mobilized to provide necessary help in the programme.
On 8th January 2011 a special ceremony was organized to conclude the Annual Sports Meet. It was also marked as the Annual School Day and Result Day of Second Terminal Examination. Mr. Gopal Krishna Poudel, District Education Officer of Chitwan was the Chief Guest of the programme and Dr. Bhakta Man Shrestha, Executive Director of B.P Koirala Cancer Hospital and one of the guardians of the school, was the Guest of Honor. In his speech, the Chief Guest reiterated the necessity of value education in school. The Guest of Honor, Mr. Shrestha promised to provide free medical facility to the children of SOS Children Village Bharatpur. He also announced to be the highly committed giver of SOS Children’s Village Bharatpur providing Rs. 600 every month on a regular basis. In the same programme sponsors and highly committed givers were felicitated. From the same day few parents became the sponsors and highly committed givers of SOS Children’s Village Bharatpur. A great number of staff members of SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Bharatpur promised to be the sponsors of SOS Children’s Village Bharatpur along with the school Principal and Project Director who have been the highly committed givers. Mr. Ganga B. Gurung, the school Principal, in his welcome speech promised to maintain Academic as well as extra curricular excellence of school. From the seat of Chairperson, Mr. Bhola Nath Paudel, the Project Director of SOS Children Village Bharatpur thanked all the friends, sponsors and givers of SOS and he also appreciated the performance of the children during the Annual Sports Meet 2010/11.
The volleyball game played in between two teams of teachers, musical chairs of co-workers, tug of war, slow cycle race among the girls of higher secondary level, cock fight of junior boys, open mini marathon etc. were some events that added the charm of the Annual Sports Meet. Coincidentally, three biological sisters from the same family house of SOS Children’s Village Bharatpur stood first, second and third in the open mini marathon among girls. They surprised many by their performance out winning some boys in that marathon.
In the same programme the Best House, the Runner Up House, the most Disciplined House and the Best House in March Past were awarded with the cash prizes and trophies. Samit Shrestha, a 9th grader was rewarded with the Championship Trophy. He had garnered six gold medals in different events (house-wise and individual).
Mr. Shiva Sundar Shrestha was the overall event manager of the Annual Sports Meet and Mr. Rajendra Lamsal was executive coordinator, whereas Mr. Khadga Bahadur Sapkota was the sports coordinator. |
